WhySlow exists because Activity Monitor shows numbers, not answers.
When a Mac feels slow, people search for names like kernel_task, WindowServer and mds_stores and land on long forum threads. WhySlow answers the same questions on your own Mac, in plain English: what is running, whether it matters, and what you can safely do about it.
Who makes it
WhySlow is made by Anil Gautam, an independent developer who also makes ClearDisk, a Mac storage cleaner. The app is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
How it's built
WhySlow is a native Swift app for macOS 15 and later. It reads system information locally, never uploads what's running on your Mac, and refuses to quit macOS system processes. The 85 process guides on this site come from the same explanations the app uses.
