WhySlow is built so your data stays on your Mac.
What the app reads
WhySlow reads the list of running processes, system load, memory, disk space, Wi-Fi signal, and background items on your Mac to explain them to you. It never uploads this information.
What leaves your Mac
- License activation sends your license key, a machine identifier, your Mac’s name and the app version to whyslow.app, so a key works on up to three Macs.
- Update checks ask whyslow.app if a newer version exists.
- The speed test, only when you start it, uses Apple’s built-in networkQuality tool against Apple’s servers.
Browser tabs
If you open the Browser panel and allow it, WhySlow reads tab titles and addresses on your Mac to find duplicates. They never leave your Mac.
Usage history
CPU and memory history is stored on your Mac for 30 days and can be turned off or cleared in Settings.
Purchases
Payments are handled by Stripe. We keep your email and license key to deliver and recover your license.
This website
whyslow.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising trackers. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps standard request logs.
